Kids visiting someone getting chemo treatments?
I was just wondering what the rules around this are. Long story short, we want to visit ILs but FIL is going thru chemo and if we ask when is a good time MIL will tell us not to bring the kids around him. So we might try to surprise them with a short visit between treatments.
TIA for any input!

If the kids are/may be getting sick, DO NOT GO. I think that's the main thing to be concerned with. Also, how is FIL feeling at the time...he may be too exhausted for visitors. I also would make sure the children are very well behaved as people going through chemo often feel awful.

Re: Kids visiting someone getting chemo treatments?
how often does he get treatments? My MIL went every 2 weeks, and the first 4-5 days following the treatment were the hardest. Then she'd be "ok" until the next treatment. As the treatments progressed, it would hit her earlier and last longer.
as the above poster mentioned, his immune system will be greatly compromised so the kids should stay away if there's any chance of passing on an illness.

Re: Kids visiting someone getting chemo treatments?
Thanks for the input.
FIL goes for treatment every 2 weeks, and they have been trying to come up and visit on his "good" week but some outside stuff cropped up and they need to stay in FL.
MIL is really depressed and has said that seeing the kids would cheer her up, but she's a typical mom who doesn't want us to spend money on flights or "go out of our way" DH wants to just book something on our own and tell them right before we come, but that makes me a little nervous since I don't want to do anything to make things more difficult on FIL.
Hopefully this weekend DH will be able to talk to MIL about it in depth and see if we can figure something out.
