Child free in your family?

Are you the only one?
If you aren't does that make people more accepting?

Re: Child free in your family?

My sister has 3 kids and my cousins (3 guys that I think of as my brothers) have 5 kids between them. I am the oldest and got married in my mid 30's so I guess it wasnt a big thing when we didnt have/want children.

My mom is a very happy grandma....Thank you sis!!

I have an older sister who medically cannot have children. My DH has 2 sisters, both over 43, one just got married and the other isn't in a relationship, neither believes they will be having kids. It kinda stinks because I would LOVE to be an aunt. I love the idea of children I can give back Chat Icon

Re: Child free in your family?

We are the only ones that don't have kids and are not trying or planning to so far.
My brother is just about to move in with his girlfriend and he talks about his imaginary kids staying with me all the time. I want him to take his time but but secretly I can't wait. I think it would cement my decision to not have kids because he and his GF are real laid back and would let me have their kid probably as often as I want.

No one believes we're not having kids so I think they're not accepting at all.

Two of my cousins have kids the other one doesn't. I think is 32-33ish but I don't know her plans or anything.

All of our siblings are younger and not married, so no babies in our family yet. My sister will be getting married August 2010 and I know she wants to have several, but she is also career driven - so conflicted.

I don't & won't have nieces or nephews either & I kinda wish I did. My brother is single though & DH is an only, so we are the only married & childfree I our generation on my side.

My cousin was CF for a long time, but she has one on the way.

DH's cousins are newly married & I think they plan/hope to have children.

I do have a CF aunt, who got married in her 20s, in the 70s, and I guess it was probably more unusual then. I was thinking of that when Tilde mentioned her mom being old school & not getting it at all. I wonder if it was hard for my aunt, but she already had nieces & nephews so she wasn't solely responsible for providing grandchildren.

But I do feel if we stay CF & anyone gives me crap I can point to my role model!

My brother is the only one right now with a child (my nephew is 2). My other brother is 19, and DH's 3 sisters are younger as well.

Re: Child free in your family?

On my side of the family, we are the only ones in my generation without kids - everyone (bother brothers and cousins) has 2 or 3 kids, ranging in age from 21 to 2.

On DH's side, we have one nephew. His other sibling is not married. (She's only in her early 30s, and I know she wants kids if she does get married.) We're not close with DH's extended family, but most of his cousins have kids.

We will be the anomaly (married without kids) in both our families.

I'm the youngest of 4 children (2 brothers, 1 sister) and my sister is the only one out of all of us that has children. Also, one of my cousins, who is married even longer than Joe and I, does not have kids yet either and I'm not sure they ever will, but I certainly don't pry.

DH is the oldest of 3 children and the only one who is married so far, so I'm not sure about how it will turn out on his side of the family.

Mostly everyone on my side of the family has kids. My sister says she's tired of waiting for me and thinks my niece will have babies before me Chat Icon On DH's side there are a lot of married couples who have never had kids so they never even ask us.
