When you're sick, do you always predict the worst?
When I am sick, I am the BIGGEST PESSIMIST! If I have a fever, I get afraid it will spike REALLY high. (for example)
I always get so worried that something relatively minor will put me in the hospital... or worse................
Is this REALLY weird??! I have so much anxiety around being sick. I allllllways get fearful that if I'm sick, it will turn into this horrible event and of course that just makes it 10000x worse. If I get sick for more than a week I panic and worry that I will just never get better...... Ok, I know that's weird.
Anyone?

Yes! I have a major problem with this to the point it's becoming debilitating. I can't go to the doctor for ANYTHING without a major panic attack to the point of nearly fainting. I get shakey just thinking about the Dr. I am seriously thinking about getting something for my anxiety in these situations. But that would involve going to the Dr! Ah- it's a vicious cycle...

Re: When you're sick, do you always predict the worst?
It could be health anxiety. You should look it up and research it a bit.
I have it terribly, it comes and goes, but when it is here it is so bad, I am so scared for the day to come that I actually have something really wrong with me for fear of losing it and not being able to cope.
I am actually starting cognitive behavioral therapy next week to try and change the way I think and my behaviors.
I have been off meds since december and I want to ttc soon so I am trying the natural approach now.
Don't let your fear turn into full blown health anxiety, it is not a good way to live

I'm pretty sure I have this. And you are 100% right when you say it's not a good way to live. It's a horrible way to live. I fear the doctor so much that I suffer and let things get bad before I'll even consider going... It causes me so much anxiety and stress that it isn't even funny. I'm actually finally considering seeing someone about - I was thinking of trying to get meds, but I'd be curious to know just what cognitive behavioral therapy is all about and how it works out for you. I'd rather avoid drugs if I can- but at this point something has to be done....

I have the exact opposite problem - my fears cause me to go to so many doctors I've seen every specialist you could imagine!

Re: When you're sick, do you always predict the worst?
you are not alone:
when I get a sudden headache I think automatically brain tumor or anneurysm.
when I get a really bad sore throat i think throat cancer.
its a problem- Im such a hypochodriac. Im trying to overcome this but its hard.
eta: antianxiety meds and seeing someone help, I have done both and it really helps to talk it out, when you say it out loud it makes you see how silly you are being.
