opinions on this letter of recommendation please

I've been asked to write a letter for my sub from my maternity leave.
Please read and give me your honest opinions.
Just so you know- nothing in this is BS. She really was a great sub and I want her to be able to give a glowing reference to future employees. I tried to follow tips and sample letters online for format since this is my 1st one.

-------------------------------------------------------
July 1, 2009
Reference: Ms. XXXX

To Whom It May Concern:

I am pleased and honored to recommend Ms. XXXX for a position as a classroom teacher. I was fortunate enough to get to know Ms. XXXX while she was a substitute teacher in my school. After hearing the high praise she received from colleagues about her skill and personality, I approached her about my three month long maternity leave. She was eager for the opportunity and even came in to substitute for me for half days so she could spend more time with the students and familiarize herself with the class, at a financial loss to her when she could have worked a full day in another position.

Ms. XXXX was the permanent substitute in my classroom from March 6, 2009 until May 29, 2009. During that time, she was responsible for lesson planning, student assessment, classroom management, and collegial team work. XXXX’s lesson plans reflected her creativity and knowledge of differentiated instruction. She had the unique opportunity to write curriculum and a Social Studies unit that follows the guidelines for the International Baccalaureate programme, which my school is currently trying to get accreditation with. This allowed XXXX to work closely with grade-level colleagues, writing lessons, creating materials, and even planning a walking trip of local monuments.

Ms.XXXX proved herself to be quite adept at classroom management. She improved upon classroom structures and policies that had already been set up when needed and when faced with several students with behavior problems, XXXX worked at creating a positive reinforcement method and increased communication with those parents. XXXX’s classroom management style seemed closer to that of a veteran teacher than to the student teacher she is. I was able to witness this on our shadow day where we were able to teach and observe together in preparation for my leave. Her maturity in dealing with the students was evident and, as a result, commanded respect from students and colleagues alike.

On a practical level, all the papers, quizzes and tests XXXX created and/or assigned to the students were immediately graded and returned to the students. She maintained a level of efficiency that was fueled by her obvious work ethic and her professional concern for her students’ progress.

Over the months that I worked with and was in contact with Ms. XXXX, I found her to be hard-working, polite, thoughtful, creative and collaborative. I firmly believe that she will do an outstanding job and become an invaluable asset to any educational institution.
Should you desire further information, please contact me at XXX-XXXX

Respectfully submitted,

Mrs. Jennifer XXXX
Third Grade Teacher
XXXX School

It the first section I would change "get" to "become"

In the second section I would lose the "and/or" and just leave "and".

Excellent letter of reference!

tearing it apart? Why? I would love someone to have written that about me!

This sentence struck me as a little awkward with the structure:

She had the unique opportunity to write curriculum and a Social Studies unit that follows the guidelines for the International Baccalaureate programme, which my school is currently trying to get accreditation with.

other than that, i'd be happy to have that in my file :)

I agree. I don't think it's good to end a sentence with 'with'.

How's this:
She had the unique opportunity to write curriculum and a Social Studies unit that follows the guidelines for the International Baccalaureate programme, with which my school is currently trying to become accredited.

Thanks ladies!

He wasn't changing what I wrote- just how I wrote it- grammar, word usage etc

Funny thing is I was the english major in college- he is a computer engineer.

Made a few changes now I just need to print it out.
