Personal question for you teachers
So I was scheduled to start IVF in September. If you started working ata new school do you think it would make you look bad if you got pregnant right away or missed a few days? Would you push IVF back? I need opinions!! !

I think it depends on the school.
The first school I worked at would probably not be thrilled with the idea, but the school I am at now totally embraces the idea. With that in mind, we are probably going to try IVF (our only option due to medical conditions) next fall. It will be the start of my third year there and I will not yet have tenure.
ETA: Perhaps you could ask around your new school and get an idea how admin feels about it?
In the long run, if I wanted to get pregnant I am not sure I would put my life on hold for the school. And keep in mind, IVF may not even work the first time. Wishing you lots of luck with whatever your decision is. .

Hi,
I went through IVF last year, but have been in my school for 9 years. I had to have a heart to heart with my Principal who thankfully embraced it. That being said, starting a new school with a new principal might be much different. Do you have tenure already? Is this is city school or out on LI?

I agree with this 100%
I have just always felt my personal life comes first. Since you are starting IVF, having a baby is clearly VERY important to you. I would not push it back. Besides, for the whole first year you will be new at the school. If people are going to have a problem with it, they will likely have a problem with it at any point during your first year there, and you probably don't want to push it back THAT long!

Thanks ladies!! My hubby also agrees with you 100%. I am actualy not tenured yet - this would be my tenure year in a city school.

to me, life is too short to put your life on hold for a job. yes, tenure is important, but clearly if you are going the IVF route, you've been through a tough road already and getting pregnant has been and may continue to be difficult for you. i say if September is when you need to start the process, go for it. legally you are entitled to get pregnant when you want to get pregnant. if you have to end your school year early, they still must give you the 12 weeks FMLA and you don't ruin your chances of being tenured, it just pushes your tenure date back a bit.
