How do you keep track of your recipes?

Do you know your regulars by heart?

A binder?

Box of index cards?

On the computer?

I have a zillion pieces of paper with recipes on them, flaaged pages in magazines, index cards, you name it.

I'd like to streamline this mess!

I have them in a file folder in my cabinet. They are not in any order but sort of grouped by main dish, dessert etc.

I have a three ring binder.

For recipes that I cut out that are smaller than 8.5x11 I have pieces of construction paper where I'll attach (staple, usually) the loose recipies.

Then behind the plastic on the front cover for the popular recipies I'll list what page in the book the recipe is (or if its in a particular cookbook and what page) along with the weight watchers points. That way I dont need to flip thru a million pages to find something, or keep on recalculating the WW points.

Re: How do you keep track of your recipes?

I know my favorites by heart, have a couple saved on the computer and the ones that I have taken out of magazines I stick in my cookbooks. I guess that I really need to organize me recipes better.

Re: How do you keep track of your recipes?

I have the best intentions of transferring all my recipes into a small three ring binder. Unfortunately, it's been two years and I'm not even a quarter way through... Chat Icon

Dinner recipes - are stuck in my head...and I rarely make them exactly the same way twice.

Everything else is stuffed in a cookbook.

Call it another project that I will someday organize.

Thanks for the suggestions! I think I'm going to go the binder and plastic sleeve route.

I have a few on the recipe cards in a little box in my cupboard.

But ones from magazines are in the plastic sleeves in a binder.

Then they are also organized:

Dinner
Vegetarian
Desserts

Re: How do you keep track of your recipes?

The regulars I know by heart.

The special occasion ones I have one of those small recipe boxes with the index-sized cards that come in it to write things on.

I used to keep a folder, but it was getting really messy and disorganized (full of recipes on scraps of paper, recipes ripped out of magazines, etc.). And I thought about making a binder, but wanted something that took up less space. So this is working out well for now.
