Need advice: Update!
I am a NYC teacher who was excessed. I interviewed with a school and they will most likely offer me the position tomorrow.
The situation is that it is a great school, great area but the position itself is not so ideal. I would be teaching two grades (one I have never taught before) and I would be travelling (no classroom). I have traveled the last 2 years and I am really looking forward to having my own classroom. This year I will also be dealing with a medical condition that may make it difficult to travel (sorry I cant say the details of it at this time).
WWYD? Do I wait around to see if any other schools call me, go back to my school in September and be an ATR (which I do not see as being a good option either), or take the job being offered to me?
TIA
UPDATE: I just accepted the position! YAY!!

Re: Need advice
Good area (not many), good school..TAKE IT! You can always change positions/grades in the years to come! At least you'll feel stable!

I agree! It may not be the best situation right now, but you can always move around as time progresses! GL and congrats on the new job!

Re: Need advice
If it is a good school in a good area, I would jump on it! My first year at my school, I didn't even have a place to put my coat! I traveled to 5 different classrooms!

Re: Need advice
I would take it.The important things- good school and area- are what count. With all these budget cuts many schols have been forced to make undesirable changes to peoples schedules, I think you are likely to find this at most school. GL

Congrats! Was this for an ELEM ED position? What District, since you said it was really good, 26?
I have been teaching for 10 years (elem ed) in District 30. I try every year on open market to transfer and never did one person contact me! I guess I am too expensive. This open market system seems to only be beneficial to newer teachers!

Re: Need advice: Update!
It is a middle school position.
I also believe the open market is not a great resource. The reason I got this job has nothing to do with the open market it is because I met the assistant principal previously and sent her an email.
Keep trying, I guess it doesn't hurt. GL
