I can't believe how dirty some teachers can be....mini vent
I just went in today after 6 years of being on child care leave. The teacher who had replaced me all this time left for another job. She supposedly was in last week....took all her personal things / files, etc and went through the books / organized them. Well....she didn't! I spent the whole day cleaning out all of her stuff. All her files were thrown all together mixed up and unorganized. I didn't know what to throw out, box up or keep. Also...the worst was all the DIRTY USED tissues that were left in her drawer along with the half eaten candy bars that was apparently her snacks. I really don't see how anyone could teach in conditions like that. She lost the keys to the filing cabinets so they don't lock now. The best is she ruined my chalkboards. From what I understand she didn't like getting chalk on her hands. So without asking for permission she took white paint and painted them to try and turn them into a whiteboard. The custodian had no idea she had done this and when I asked him about it, he is telling me there is nothing he can do...she ruined them. Apparently b/c she didn't use the correct paint, when you write on the board it doesn't erase all the way so you have writing on top of writing that can't be cleaned fully. Not was I was planning on coming back to.
Great...if I would have known it was going to be such a disaster I would have gone in sooner. Well hopefully I can get a lot done tomorrow so I don't have to go in on Friday. Thanks for letting me vent.

ugh - she sounds like a nightmare. i subbed in classrooms that were dirty like that. i never understood the open food in desks. hasn't anyone ever heard of roaches?! gross.
i would go to administration with the blackboard problem. shouldn't be your responsibility or expense to correct that. maybe they can cover it with white board. my principal put some cheap white board type stuff over one of my coworker's blackboards. it looks good and works great.

Ugh, what a nightmare...I'm sorry to hear you have to deal with that
I can totally relate. I was always under the impression that it's an unspoken understanding that as teachers, we take care of each others' stuff. I had to be out for most of the year last year, and I found out that I was wrong. I came back to find my room trashed and many of my supplies missing.
The blackboard situation is just totally unreal to me Did you speak to the principal about it? It seems to me that if she did that without admin's permission, she should have to pay for the damage that she caused!
Good luck...I know it's not a great way to start the year, but I hope it gets better for you!!!

I felt the same way today, gross stuff was left in my new room....i found critters in bookcaes...ick!

yikes!!!  I can't believe that--- half eaten candy bars?!?!? YUCK!
I have to admit.... I am not the most tidy teacher.. but if my room gets bad, it's because it slowly will get disorganized..... but there is a BIG difference between clutter and filth. Ugh!!

Yeah, this is me, too. There's a definitely difference between paper disorganization and just plain disgusting crap

ugh how disgusting!!!! my DH's room was just as dirty... DISGUSTING!!! We spend sooooo many hours in the day just cleaning, only to go in the next day and find even more of a mess because OTHER teachers went into his room and decided to help themselves...

They sell that chalk board paint. Maybe you can paint over the paint she used?
