NYSAA

I have a self contained class, all of which are taking the NYSAA. For those of you who are teaching 6,7,8 graders, geared toward the alternate assessment, can you let me know what your curriculum looks like? I would greatly appreciate it. I teach all subjects to students in 6, 7, and 8th grade...they are on 1st grade reading levels.

The NYSAA is not geared toward a curriculum per se since it is individualized per student. Have you ever administered it before? If not, BOCES runs training sessions and you can probably ask your district to send you. They were soooo helpful. I helped scored the NYSAA last year, so if you have any questions, feel free to FM.

I teach the same grade students you do (not 6 but I have to assess someone on a 6 grade level) and haave been doing the aa for 6 years now. It is a PITA and a waste of time in my opinion. I do not gear my curriculum to teaching the AA but I know some places do. My mother actually works in another school and teaches as well and they make her make her standards similar to AA. I have not started assessing yet - just trying to get to know my new students! I know that there is a training (at least for Nassau) at the end of Sept/Beginning of Oct. I can help you with it if you want. When my mom's district started, they actually contracted with me to help with the collegial review :)
