Since I already MC once...

should I be trying to get in to see my doctor sooner this time around??

I got my BFP this AM and my first appointment is Oct. 23rd. It's a long time to wait but I figure at least by then I should hear the heart beat (I will be 7 weeks and a few days)

Should I be going in to get a blood test or something sooner than that based on my history?? I don't really want to have to deal with going to the lab to be honest. My numbers were really high last pregnancy by week 7-8. They were just going down by then which confirmed I was MC.

I am just all nervous...thinking, what if this is a chemical, what if i MC again. Should I just buy another few tests and take them each week leading up to my appointment? Is that silly?

Please talk some sense into me! WWYD?

Honestly I have no idea. I think I would be the same way, thinking that I should go, but just not sure.

When you made your appointment did you mention your previous M/C? I think I would mention that and see what they think. Knowing myself I think I would have to get in there to just see my numbers were rising, but at the same time many girls on here wished they waited longer so that they didn't have to go through the "maybe" "maybe not" stuff.

I think I would just need reassurance, but that's just me, do what you want and need to do Chat Icon .

Most docs don't take one m/c to mean you are at any increased risk, so they don't ask you to come in sooner. The fact is, unless it's a progesterone problem, they won't be able to do much to help you if your beta isn't good, anyway. It's really just a waiting game, so if you don't want to go in, I wouldn't. If you are freaking out, then ask to go in for a beta and progesterone level check- it *might* give you some peace of mind.

Congrats and think positive!Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: Since I already MC once...

My doctor said I have the same risk for this pregnancy as I had for the last one...each pregnancy is 20% at least for the first 3! I personally want to wait the 8 weeks the doctor says because I hated the back and forth visits.....Now I want to go 8 weeks and hope for the best. I'd go by what the doctor said. Try to enjoy this time...take care of yourself and be happyChat Icon You deserve it!

I thought the same thing last time. It just didn't seem 'real' to me and I kept wanting to take a pregnancy test every week just to make sure. lol. I'm not sure how that works though. All throughout the 9 months, does the HPT stay high enough to constantly get a positive? I have no clue. I wouldn't want to get a false negative later on and have a total freak out for no reason. But you're not alone in thinking that way!!

Re: Since I already MC once...

I plan on calling my doctor right away and reminding them that I m/c in July. After the d&c my doctor had told me when I got PG again he would have me come in right away to test my progesterone.

Id let them know you have a history. Having the blood work done will be more comforting then taking an HPT everyday Chat Icon

Re: Since I already MC once...

But here is my question to you all...ok so you get a BFP....and I know it's scary and you don't believe it (I took 3 HPT with my first bfp over 3 days) and say you tell the doctor you want to come in to be sure....What if they take your blood adn say levels are low, come back in 2 days. and then you go again and they keep having you come in. isn't that more stressful than just going about your business just enjoying knowing that you are pregnant?

What is the benefit of getting early testing done? thats my question. Best case scenerio they tell you the #'s look good...but we all know that anything can change in an instant....just opening up conversation here...

Re: Since I already MC once...

I really don't have an answer to this. As zoe pointed out the numbers can drop at any moment. I know for me, I misscarried over the course of 5 weeks and it was purt torture to go in all those time to keep checking levels. On the other hand I can see it being torture not knowing if my numbers are progressing the way they should.

I will probably wait it out though next time when it does happen. I can't go through the torture of "well the numbers aren't the best but they are still going up" just to see them drop slowly.

Do what your heart tells you to do and whatever will reassure you and make YOU feel better! Chat Icon

ETA: Congratulations on your BFP!! Happy and Healthy 9 months!!! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: Since I already MC once...

i almost think you should call and mention to them that you had a previous loss..

reason for that is.. they can put your on progesterone if it has anything to do with that..
they also would monitor your HCG numbers to make sure they rise!

For me personally, its not the hCg I'd interested in, its the progesterone since mine was low last time. If its caught low in the beginning I can either brace myself for another m/c or start the suppositories earlier then I did last time and hope for the best. They didnt check my progesterone until after 7 weeks when it was already too late.

Re: Since I already MC once...

Chat Icon Chat Icon congrats on your BFP Chat Icon I think I am going to wait 8 weeks before I go in to dr., just so I can enjoy my PG. Last time, I went in at 5 weeks or so then went back at 6 weeks and a few more times. I was excited to have a sono each time, but that last time it was heartbreaking to see there was no growth & HB. So, I'm def. going to do things differently this time.
Call dr. & see what they had planned for you. Congrats again!Chat Icon
