Re: A comment from a student...
The same thing happens to me. They actually ask if I have kids before they ask if I'm married.

Re: A comment from a student...
As a student, I could not imagine asking a teacher a question like that.

I know, me neither! But that's not even so bad compared to other things they say... you would not imagine the questions these kids ask, it is shocking sometimes, I have heard it all.

A student of mine (in high school) found out my age and was SHOCKED that I am (GASP) over 30 and I have NO kids!!
She asked me Why dont you have kids yet????
I answered honestly that I love my life right now. When the time comes, I will be happy, but right now, I am happy with just me and DH!
ugh!! I get asked this a lot by my students, too. except they're in elementary school, so they don't any better and just end it when i say "no". kids today are very "nervy", as my grandmom would say

Re: A comment from a student...
My students ask all the time. I say that I have 400 kids, and that's more than enough, right now. Then I redirect the conversation.
One of my friend's students told her that she would be an old maid if she didn't get married soon! Kids say ridiculous things. Try not to let it get to you.

GREAT answer!
My niece asked me that question many years ago. I said something like, "Why would I want brats like you running around?"

Re: A comment from a student...
When I started working I was 21 and unmarried and my students wanted to know why I didnt have kids....
I explained that ideally I would like my child to be raised in a two parent home. Of course sometimes this is not possible or people choose not to. But I was working with a population where many of the teen girls were getting pregnant (we had a day care at school). I had not problem telling them I felt they should all wait until they were financially secure and in a position to raise a child.
My kids ask now, Im married and 27 lol
