Pain in mouth... now have swollen glands...

OK, so a couple of days ago, my gums way in the back of my mouth started to hurt. I was assuming that maybe I bit into something sharp that scraped my gums and got it all irritated.

Then last night I noticed that the gums are still sore and now I have a swollen gland under my jaw on the same side where I am having the mouth pain.

I am worried that there is an infection somewhere and that is why the gland is swollen (the swollen gland hurts too)... but I'm not sure if it's something that will go away on it's own because my body is fighting it or if I would need something for it.

I am supposed to go tomorrow to the doctor for a flu shot... do you think it could wait until tomorrow?

I would not wait, this is just me, not to scare you, but it can be an abscess- and that needs to be taken care of ASAP. Call the dentist if it is on your gums. Feel better!

could it be a salivary stone? I had one of these before and I thought it was a swollen gland

I was just going to ask this. My Dh was just diagnosed with something called Kryptic Tonsils. its where food particles get stuck in your tonsils and you have the pain of swollen glands. From what I've heard it's pretty common. HTH
