My dog pees so much and always has more
My Maltese is my first dog ever. He's almost two years old. He has been trained to go in the house on a tray but he loves to walk and run outside now that the weather is warmer. Whether he's walking on his leash or just running in the yard, he marks all over the place. I am really starting to worry that something is not right though. How can he go so many times and still not empty his bladder? Yesterday, he must have gone over a half dozen times in the yard. Right after that, I let him in the living room, where he rarely is allowed to go. After all he had just peed outside so I figured he was done. Well, what do I spot from the corner of my eye? He sniffed at the drapes, turned his back and proceeded to lift his leg. He was so quick that I didn't even yell in time and he had already peed a decent amount. Where does all this urine come from? Why doesn't he just go once or twice and finish? It never bothered me before but yesterday I started to wonder if this is normal. Any thoughts would really be appreciated. Thanks so much.

I swear Bruno saves some up just so he can pee everywhere . He squeezes even the tiniest bit out at every tree, pole etc. He is trained to go on the pad in the house but if I let him on a rug he will insist on trying to squeeze some out on it . Obviously if you feel it's too much though, you'll call the vet because you never know if something is wrong with their bladder etc.

He is marking his territory. Is he neutered?

Yes, he is neutered. He's been great in the house except for when he gets to a room he's usually gated out of. Then he marks, I guess. I just find it so amazing how he can keep squeezing and squeezing and still find more. It has to be this territorial thing. I've tried reading whatever I could find online on the topic and I'm not really concerned enough any more to be running to the vet with $65.
Thanks for all your responses.

My dog does the same thing - when he goes for walks he pees on everything. Not long streams though, just enough to make a scent.
As for peeing in the house, he's only that maybe twice in the last 3 years. He's 5 though.

When we take my parents dog for a walk, a female JRT, she will mark constantly. Sometime like just one drop will come out. I guess she just wants everyone to know she was there.....like a graffiti tagger...

You may want to call your vet and see how much it would cost if you took a first morning urine sample down, and had them check to see if he has any bacteria (UTI).
Besides that, yes, I notice my male dogs like to mark, and if there is some scent in your home, say an old spot where he peed that wasn't totally removed, they'll keep doing it.

Kathy, good idea about taking just his urine in to be tested. Thanks.
What do you recommend for removing the odor? I have bought several products so far and have used them according to directions. Is there one you find better than the rest?
Dita, that's so funny about the female also. I thought it was the macho male who wanted to claim his land.
