Lower Back exercises?

I feel like I do a lot of work on my abs and neglect my lower back.
Are there any exercises I can do to strengthen my lower back and balance my ab workouts?

Thanks.

Re: Lower Back exercises?

Yup - there are plenty. One that I do at the gym is on the Roman chair. It's a back extension.

Then there's also the Superman exercise, where you lie on your stomach and lift your arms and legs off the floor, hold, and release.

Thank you for responding so quickly!

I workout in the small gym in my building so I odn't have access to lots of weight machines.

But I can definitely do the Superman exercise. Do you know of any others that I can do on my own?

Re: Lower Back exercises?

Oh, here's a description of how to do them:

Hold the dumbbells in each hand and hold them with your arms hanging straight down in front of your body. Begin this movement by bending at the waist and lower the dumbbells to the floor. Be sure to keep your legs as straight as possible (a slight bend is ok) and really let the weight of the dumbbells bring you down. On the way up, really focus on your butt and hamstrings to pull the weight back up. It is very important to keep your back straight and rigid throughout this exercise and to let your legs and butt do the work.
