What would you do?
So almost a year ago, I started at my new firm (I'm a lawyer). I really like my job, but I have some tough cases and a very hands off boss, which adds to my challenges.
So I am being recruited to work for an insurance company. The job is $15K less than I am making now- and we can really use that money. BUT the lifestyle would be much better. Currently I work about a 10 hour day.
So at first I was excited about the opportunity, but the more I thought about it, I was concerned about the money. So I am debating whether or not I should even interview. I don't want to waste anyone's time, including my own.
But at the same time, I'm thinking with benefits (I currently pay for DH/DD's medical) it may end up being close to the same. So it may be worth checking out.

If it's not that much less and gets you a better quality of life I would pursue it.
Also, you have nothing to lose by going on the interview.
You never know if they will meet you halfway on the money.
I say go.

I agree with the previous two posters. Being an attorney myself, I know about those 10 hour days. They really stink.

I would go. Like Susan said, they may be a little flexible with the money, and the benefits may be worth it.
I don't think it is a waste of time, because even if it isn't the job for you, you may get an idea if this is a field you might want to pursue.

I'd kill for 10 hour days this year. I have already billed over 2500 hours this year. It's killing me!
I'd go for the interview. If they wind up interested and if they make you an offer, then you can always ask for more money. GOOD LUCK!

I agree- once they decide that they want you definately try and get them to match your salary- you can be creative to and find other ways to make it work- ex- extra vacation days, more matching for your 401k, signing bonus- see what they can offer you

Re: What would you do?
My brother is an attorney..he started at an insurance place. He went to work for my dad, take over the business .
anyway...I say all that to say, he has worked on both sides and says the insurance side is SUCH a better quality of life.
He was out at 5pm...much less headaches and stress.
If the benefits almost equal the pay difference..I would totally do it!
GOOD LUCK
