question?

I have yet another question..please bare with me. Has anyone been prescribed provera, and did not take Clomid afterwards? I was doing some research on posts and it seems many women seem to have taken provera and then clomid right after it. I don't have a prescription for Clomid. Do they go hand in hand? My doctor wants to see if I get my period with the provera. Any comments?

The meds do different things. Provera, tricks the body into believing it ovulated. Provera is a synthetic form of progesterone. Progesterone is secreted after ovulation. As soon as the progesterone levels plummet the lining should shed, hence "AF".

Now sometimes, a person just gets a random annovulatory cycle. They need provera, but then, as soon as the cycle starts fresh, they go on to ovulate. In this case, clomid isn't necessary.

Clomid is a med that induces ovulation.

Many times women who needed to take provera to bring on AF, also need clomid...if they are ttc, so that they can ovulate. However, clomid doesn't treat the cause of annovulatory cycles. So thorough blood work should be done, to see why ovulation may not be occuring. It could be due to insulin levels, thyroid levels, prolactin, testosterone etc etc. If you treat these issues, then clomid may not be needed.
