Yes. Sometimes the woman's CM is considered hostile to sperm.
Did you ever watch Friends? That was Monica and Chandler's problem.

Some women have very acidic mucus...meaning the ph balance is a bit off, and it causes the mucus to kill off sperm. You can try to alkalize your mucus as much as possible by eating a lot of veggies, baby carrots are a definite helper, alfalfa tablets,..and drinking tons of water. Acidic sperm is considered 'hostile". You can also have a post coital test run, which isn't always accurate but that's when you bd with your dh, and then go in to the doctor and they run the post coital test. They take a sample of your cm and under a microscope see if the sperm are moving correctly or 'dead". A way to try to over come hostile cm is through IUI...since that bypasses...cm.
Another issue some women and men have are immune issues. Some women have Sperm antibodies. Which means that they have certain proteins that will attach themselves to sperm and prevent it from moving. The sperm can also be grouped together so they can't move by these proteins. Men sometimes have sperm antibodies that work against their own sperm. Basically doing the same thing.
This situation can be treated with IVF.

On a rerun of ER, there was a woman who was allergic to his sperm and she was breaking out in hives from it.

Yes, my mother had this problem. Her body attacked my dad's sperm and she had a hard time getting pregnant with her second, me. Eventually she did get pregnant because I'm here along with my younger sister. I also have a friend that had this problem and conceived twins successfully through IVF.

This happened to what of DH's friends. I'm not sure how they worked around it, but it did take them quite awhile to get pregnant because of it.

Well it depends on which issue, some women are allergic, some women have hostile cm and some women/men have sperm antibodies.
One test is the post coital,...which I explained in my post. This can be done by an ob/gyn.
The sperm antibodies can be tested, either through your ob/gyn, RE, or a reproductive immunologist.... I am not sure if that test can be done through quest or has to be sent to a special lab.
