Palpitations

So last night I had palpitations every few seconds for hours. I have had these before and have gone to many cardiologists and had many tests done in the past few years. They all say that there is nothing wrong and it is normal to have palpitations sometimes.

I am just really nervous, last night freaked me out. I did not feel lightheaded, or have chest pains. It was just every few seconds one beat would come on too fast and then there would be a longer than normal pause and i would feel it in my chest and throat.

Should I be concerned and go to another dr again or just believe what they have all said and just try to ignore them when it happens?

TIA

Re: Palpitations

I get these all the time based on hormonal changes... for some reasons cardiologists love to say their normal and dismiss a lot of concerns. If they really bother you I would go to Dr. Joseph Levine at St. Francis. He doesn't take insurance but is a great listener and actually uncovered a lot of stuff.

i have see dr levine as well.. though he did take my insurance with out an issue, and i know my sister in going back to him in a few weeks and i am POSITIVE her insurance is also covering it as she would never go otherwise...

i went through a few doctors who told me my palps were nothing and after 7 years i was sitting in the er waiting for my first husband to be admitted and i collapsed to the floor... after the nurses and doctors stepped over me i went home and immediately went to see my cardiologist (who i would recommend if he wasnt in jail for having spy cams in his bathrooms) and he actually referred be to levine... it took a long time to figure out what it was that caused the palps and in the end it was such an easy fix... apparently i do not use enough salt so i had to increase my salt consumption of take 2000mg of salt a day in tablet form.....

out of curiosity has any of your doctors done an incident monitor on you to determine or track you palps?

really?? my understanding is that they submit the 1st appt to insurance and I'm responsible for paying the $350 deductible... after that we filed a grievance for financial reasons and he accepted it, so we will not have to pay anymore for the yr.

Re: Palpitations

I started having this over the summer and it lasted weeks.

I saw my primary and he did an EKG and then I wore a 24 hour monitor. It turned out to be stress related.

Re: Palpitations

I had something similar in college. I went to a cardiologist and it turned out to be mitral valve prolapse. Don't get scared by the name, it's basically harmless. I avoided caffeine for a while but now I am fine!

Re: Palpitations

If you saw a cardiologist, chances are its probably stress, hormones, ect....

Did you have your thyroid checked? Make sure they check the Antibodies to your thyroid as well. (Not just the TSH).
This can have an affect on palps BUT remember, MOST palps are harmless.

Try to be encouraged by the Cardiologists that you have seen.

The more you think of the palps, the worse you will feel & the more you will recognize them...........try to forget them.

I find that my papls are WORSE when I sit & relax.

Remind yourself, Cardiologists are the heart experts...............Im sure you are fine!
