Question about football - the blind side (NOT the movie)

If a QB is right-handed, and is looking to pass, why is his left side considered his blind side?

from what I understand its because a righty must lean forward with his left foot then turning his left shoulder. Kinda like turning his back on the left. I may be wrong, but thats how I got it.Chat Icon

Okay that makes sense. I wasn't even thinking about his feet. I was thinking more like his right arm would/should be blocking his view. Thanks!

Are you familiar with baseball? It's kinda the same principal as to why a left-handed pitcher is more likely to pick off a runner on first base or why it's more difficult for a runner on first base to steal second off a lefty than a righty.

In order to throw the ball forward (with power) you must turn your back away from your non-throwing side. It's really all because of human physical mechanics.

the qb's blindside can be either his left or right side.

it has nothing to do with being a left or right handed thrower.

it all depends on which way he is facing as he's about to pass.

if he's looking right then his left is his blind side and if he's looking left his right is his blind side.
