Are we responsible for my dads credit card debt? He passed away last week.

He does not have a will, an estate, really any assets. What do we do??

I am so so sorry..please fm anytime if u need to talk, my mom passed without warning one year ago on the 8th.
If he had no estate, no will and had nothing and you are not on joint on the account you just need to ail a copy of the death certificate.

I'm pretty sure that with *most* credit card agreements your debt is absolved upon death. You will need to contact his CC companies to notify them of what happened and like the PP said, you'll prob have to send them a copy of his death certificate as proof.

I asked an estate attorney

any letter I got I sent back with "estate insolvant" written on them and never heard from them again

No, you aren't personally responsible unless you have signed an agreement to be so such as co signing.

The credit card companies will attach the debt to the estate and the cc will be paid prior to distribution to the kin. That is for assets without a named beneficiary.
