Spin off to "must read" Gone with the Wind lovers
I adore this book! It breaks my heart that it is all we can read of Margaret Mitchell's. I truly wonder if she would have written another, even if unrelated, novel had she not been killed by that taxi
I've read Scarlett and Rhett Butler's People, both had their moments, but in no way compare to the original!
My question- do YOU think Scarlett gets Rhett back?
And yes, I do have a lot of time on my hands if I sit around thinking about this stuff

I love Gone with the Wind.
I've read Scarlett and I thought it was terrible. Far too romance novel-ish to do the story any justice and just not well-written for my taste.
As far as Scarlett getting Rhett back - are you referring to something that happens in Rhett Butler's People? I read Scarlett a long time ago and have tried to forget it but I thought she got him back at the end?

Yeah, Scarlett was too much of a bodice ripper Setting 2/3 of it in Ireland was also a poor choice.
They end up together in both of the "sequals", but I am wondering how Margaret Mitchell really saw it...if they would find each other.
Just randomly thinking about it...maybe because it's Valentines Day season and they are my favorite literary couple.

I do think that she would have found a way for them to find their way back to each other

I like to think that Rhett walked out that door and Scarlett turned around and went to her bedroom as if nothing happened.
BUT she immediately began her tunnel vision goal of setting out to get Rhett back the next day. I'm sure Rhett stayed out of the country for a while, and if need be, I think Scarlett would have married someone else just to spite him, but with the ulterior motive of getting him back.
As a lover of the book, I think they'd be happeir fighting with each other, than agreeing with anyone else.

I didnt read any of the "sequels". IMO sequels are rarely as good as the originals, I'm not even sure that Margaret Mitchell herself could have topped GWTW.
But I do think that they would have found their way back to each other, eventually. I'm a sucker for a good love story.

Re: Spin off to "must read" Gone with the Wind lovers
I do think they ended up back together. I kind of think of them like Shana Moakler and Travis Barker, they always end up drifting back to each other.
I didn't like Scarlett or Rhett Butler's People.
But there is another Margaret Mitchell book, Lost Laysen but I didn't like it near as much as I did GWTW. I have read a few bios of her over the years that were interesting.
I just remembered there is another book of some of the short stories she wrote when she was younger, I can't remember the name of the book though.

ITA!!! It wouldn't have been quick or easy but they would have found their way back to each other.
As a side note: remember when they made the "Scarlet" movie? The casting was horrific! In my mind, if there was ever a sequel - Delta Burke was meant to play Scarlet.
