I can think of a reason... 'cus you hate your job but need the money... hate it so much that you would prefer to collect unemployment which you'll get only if you were laid off.

Boy do I wish my boss would call me into the office & hand me a pink sheet today.
Thing is... they dont want to pay severence... so they rather keep you until you get frustrated enough to leave on your own.
