Professional Certification

For those of you who have applied for your professional certification, did you need to take grad classes in the area you teach?

Someone in my school just sent out an email saying you need 12 grad credits for your subject area. So she is saying if I teach biology, I need to take 12 GRAD credits in biology. Is this true? I am not going to lie, I am freaking out a little bit.

I know I can call BOCES, but I was hoping someone coudl shed some light on this.

Re: Professional Certification

I posted about this not long ago here
but I didn't get anywhere with it. I am not in a rush so i got kind of lazy trying to figure it out. But I think you will have to call BOCES. Sorry -that's not what I was hoping to hear either!

Re: Professional Certification

I'm not sure, but I think I have heard the same thing.
I find this whole professional certification to be really confusing.
I have to send my stuff in to the State soon and I don't even know how to go about it.

Don't freak out yet though... when does your initial certificate expire? You may be able to request an extension or you may have enough time to do the credits if it turns out they are required.

Re: Professional Certification

I am having the same problem. I am apparently missing some credits (my masters is in liberal arts) and no one can help me. I sent in my paperwork to get my professional certification in AUGUST 2009 and no one can tell me what courses I'm apparently missing!!! It is so frustrating-when I called Western Suffolk Boces today, the certification office is closed til Monday!!!Chat Icon We are all in it together gals...Chat Icon

Re: Professional Certification

I had to take grad level math classes to get my Masters degree. Is this something different?
