Need some advice.

My principal asked for teachers to attend a conference the week after break. The rsvp had to be done via a survey, and in this survey we were asked if we wanted to present. I made very sure to specify that I did not want to present.

Today I got an email from the person running the meeting- she wrote that I'd responded "yes" for presenting but didn't say what I wanted to present (because I DON'T want to present!) and wanted to know what I'd be doing. Chat Icon

I really, really don't want to do a presentation, mostly because I don't know what to focus on. I'll also admit that I'm a bit annoyed because 2 years ago my kids did not do well on the ELA and she practically wanted me and my colleague fired. Last year my kids did really well on the test and now she's blowing sunshine up my ***.

Is there a way I can get out of this gracefully?

Re: Need some advice.

I'd tell the truth. Say, "I'm sorry, but I must have accidentally checked yes for a presentation because I thought I had checked no." I don't think it needs to be explained any further, but I don't know the situation completely. But that's probably what I would do.

I agree. If you're not interested, it's not worth the extra work and headache of preparing for a presentation. Especially if you're tenured and not worried about making waves with the principal. It should be pretty easy to get out of if you don't make a big deal about it.

Thanks for not telling me to suck it up. Chat Icon I am going to tell her that I can't do it. We have a lead teacher and a coach and I actually stepped down from being a coach myself in part because I didn't like doing PD.
