ELA Prep.

Hi All,

I am running an after-school ELA prep. program for 8 weeks (1 hour, twice a week after school) for 4th and 5th graders. Ideally, it would have been one grade level, but they didn't have tons of kids sign up so it's a 4th/5th grade split. I do NOT want to bore them (and myself) with practice tests. Anyone have some suggestions for FUN activities to do... it's starts Tuesday and I have done nothing (my daughter was in the hospital and so I wasn't at school the whole week before break and I've had no access to my materials.)

I have Smart Board and lap top access, so if I can make it fun with participation with that, that would be great as well as sites/activities that I can do with both grade levels.

I am thinking of dividing it up like this:
Compare/Contrast (1 week) Literary Elements (1 week) Summarizing (1 week), Writing Skills/Written Response (1 week), Listening Comprehension (1 week) Reading Comprehension (2 weeks), Test Practice (1 week)

Activities, websites, games, etc. welcome!

TIA!

Re: ELA Prep.

Definitely focus on Notetaking and Editing. That seems to be the hardest thing for my kids. I teach 5th grade. I'll check my comp at work tomorrow and send you anything that seems useful!Chat Icon

Re: ELA Prep.

being that you have a smartboard, google "cause and effect powerpoints" or something to that effect and sooo many things will pop up. There are really cute games that you can play...I will have to send them to my email from school, and then I can send them to you!

Good luck!

PS-I hope your daughter is okay. I was out before school too because my son had his tonsils and adenoids out...makes it even harder to go backChat Icon
