NYC teachers- question about wisdom teeth
I need to get 2 wisdom teeth out so I have to go to an oral surgeon. They just called to confirm and said that if they are impacted (which im pretty sure they are) UFT doesn't cover it and then they submit it through GHI bc its consider medical. But then she said that I will have to pay a $50 copay and it could be up to $300 per tooth that I need out. My baby started to cry when I was on the phone so I got off the phone quickly and I don't understand why I would have to pay $300 per tooth.
Has anyone gotten wisdom teeth out that were impacted? What did you have to pay?

I had one that was impacted- I am pretty sure I paid $50 copay- this was 2004. The Welfare Fund covered it, not my health ins. but I didn't go to a surgeon. Do you HAVE to go to a surgeon?

Re: NYC teachers- question about wisdom teeth
I had one pulled on an emergency and it was impacted. The dental office originally made me pay an 80.00 copay, but then refunded 60.00 of it after GHI paid for the procedure. I only paid 20.00 out of pocket plus the cost of the prescriptions.

Re: NYC teachers- question about wisdom teeth
I had all 4 taken out (and I have an excellent doctor if you need a rec.) 2 were horribly impacted. It cost me 50 bucks for the copay and I had to pay for the anesthesia. I think that may have been around 300 total. I did it about 2 years ago and I remember the final cost was dependent on how long I was knocked out for. If you want the doctors info I can FM you, she is in Roslyn.
