adopting a green amazon but scared!!

hi i am so nervous because i have a african grey and i really want to adopt this other bird. i was at someones house and under a blanket i saw something . i asked what it was , so i walked up to it and lifted the cover and saw a beautiful green amazon. she had him covered in the middle of the day . im not friends with this woman i worked for her just to let you all know. the bird was scared had little water that was old and dirty and its food was disgusting . a bowl of dirty rottem peanuts . i wasn't rude to the woman but i said omg the bird is gorgeous when did you get it she said she never interacts with it so don't have time . so i said oh i would love to have a bird like that . thats my nature always trying to help something or someone . so she said oh the next time you come over i will clean the cage and you have bring it home .

now im like oh my god the bird was definetly not likeing me it was aggresive eyes pinned and fluffy scared . i have a very smart tamed hand feed baby timneh grey and the last thing i want to do is upset my bird or my life , but on the other hand i can not just let this big beautiful bird be treated like that . what do i do ?i guess i will try it out at least and if it doesn't work bring the bird back to her someone tell me your opinion thanks

I have only had a few birds, and none of them as big as an amazon, but if you feel the bird should be rescued then I would try to weigh the options. Can you keep the new Parrot in a different area than your African Grey until it becomes more social and accepting? Also, can your vet offer you anty insight as to how to re-train and re-socialize the bird?

I would do an online search for "Parrot Forums"
I got a baby bunny recently and found a rabbit forum online....it is the best source of information there is out there.
I would talk to other bird people on there and see what they say.
I think the main reason this poor bird is aggressive is due to neglect. With a lot of patience and love, I am sure he can be tamed and probably has a lot of love to give.
