someone please help me....UPDATE 3-14

well I saw a periodontist ($120) who had no idea what this is ....he sent me to the oral surgeon ($175) who also has no idea but thinks since the antibiotics didnt clear it up that it is viral so he prescribed a liquid steroid that I put on gauze 4 times a day it is still painful and swollen its been over a month and now I have an annoyng tooth in the back of my mout that the filling wont stay in and keeps breaking so there are sharp pieces and they are irrating the swollen gums
the only good thing to come of this is that I lost 7lbs so far due to the pain
oh total spent so far is $500 and thats with my dentist giving me a huge deal
so I have had a gum infection for over 3 weeks and cant take it anymore ....went to the dentist who prescribed aboxicilian a 11 days ago went back a week later because it didnt help and he prescribed a stronger antibiotic(clyndamycin)been on that since Thursday and now its Mondaya nd its still so bad and painful and i think i could possibly have something going on the other side of my mouth
what do I do? I need some help I dont know what I should do now

if i was you i would go back to the dentist and tell him whats going on....or if your not happy there try a new one. sorry im not to helpful i have never had a gum infection but

Can you ask your dentist if you need to see an oral surgeon to have it cleaned out? I know my dad had an infection for a few months but it got better eventually. I do think he needed some work done to clean the area and I think he want to an oral surgeon. I don't know what they do exactly but they open it up to let it drain.

I know whenever I've had dental work done, I was told to gargle with salt water a few times a day. I also know you aren't supposed to smoke (not sure if you do). You may also want to try Listerine but it may burn a bit.

I have been gargling with warm water and salt and using listerine....I dont smoke....my dentist doesnt open until 10am.......I just feel like this will never go away
oh and I dont have dental coverage

You prob need to see an oral surgeon. Ask your dentist to refer you & tell him/her that you don't have coverage. An infection can turn serious if untreated

he had me call a periodontist......and when I called the dr was in surgery
(which scares me)
but I need this fixed because the pain is killing me
they are gonna call me back as soon as he gets out of surgery to see when I can come in

i would try to find a peridontist or someone who specializes in gums. this may be beyond what a dentist can help you with.

Did they take x-rays? Could you have an abcess in your gums or on your jaw bone? Is your face swollen as well?
