Re: Is it me?
I agree that no one is hiring. We have about 2 people retiring in my district and they may not be replaced for budgetary reasons. There have been many articles recently about districts cutting back on large numbers of teaching positions.

are you elem ed?
I found that there were quite a few districts in the NYT (more than I thought would be in this economy) - more secondary and special area
CSH RVC Oceanside?
are some of the SDs I remember.

Nope, I'm a guidance counselor. I'm currently in NYC, and just found out that my principal is leaving. I (and half of the teachers on staff) are not waiting around to see which new yahoo is going to take over the school.

I know it stinks, but I would just stay put for a bit. Your new principal may work out for you and if you change school, you could lose seniority and then really be screwed. JMO.

If she's in NYC she would maintain her seniority, no? It goes by NYC hire date, not school date.

Yes...but she may go to a school where she has the LEAST senority whereas perhaps in her current school there is someone below her or the only GC

$%^&!
I didn't think of that.
But still... I'm pretty afraid of who we're getting as a replacement. After eight years in education, I've worked for exactly two reasonable people. Heaven help us...

Re: Is it me?
I feel your pain R
I have 6 years in and am in excess bc I am the low man in my school--somewhere else I probably would not be
There is no harm in looking--but maybe in the interview or better yet once your OFFERED the job it might be worth asking...I mean it is your job security after all.

Re: Is it me?
I was thinking the same thing! I am in the market for a job ANYWHERE on Long Island/NYC and I am math/business certified and am surprised and the low amount of math jobs.
I was hoping that my old district would decide to add my position back (I was excessed last year) but that's not happening.
