Hypothyrodism/Hyperthyrodism

Do you have either? When were you diagnosed? DH had hyperthyrodism and they killed off his thyroid (he had it removed in 2007) and he is on synthroid. My bff has hypothyrodism and so does her mom. I wonder how many of us haven't been diagnosed for either.

Symptoms of Hypothyroidism

Fatigue
Weakness
Weight gain or increased difficulty losing weight
Coarse, dry hair
Dry, rough pale skin
Hair loss
Cold intolerance (you can't tolerate cold temperatures like those around you)
Muscle cramps and frequent muscle aches
Constipation
Depression
Irritability
Memory loss
Abnormal menstrual cycles
Decreased libido

Common symptoms and signs of hyperthyroidism
Palpitations
Heat intolerance
Nervousness
Insomnia
Breathlessness
Increased bowel movements
Light or absent menstrual periods
Fatigue
Fast heart rate
Trembling hands
Weight loss
Muscle weakness
Warm moist skin
Hair loss
Staring gaze

Re: Hypothyrodism/Hyperthyrodism

I have Hashimoto's...

Before getting diagnosed I had all of the symptoms of Hypothyroid listed above...

My TSH level came back 1 point higher than the normal range and my GP felt it was fine. Regardless of the fact that I had all the symptoms...

I made an appointment with an Endo for a second opinion...

Im so glad that I did. I think some of us may suffer from it and yet still fall into the normal TSH range so we dont get treated..

I also have hashimotos. I was actually misdiagnosed with hypothyroidism at 17 and didn't know it was hashimotos until my neurologist sent me for blood work last year at 29 Chat Icon Luckily it wasn't that big of a deal. I am still on the same medication (synthroid).

I have hypothyroidism and am miserable!!! My levels were completely under control while I was pregnant and right after delivery. Now my DS is 8 months old and my TSH is 9.2!!!

Yeah I know.....it is just one autoimmune disease sometimes leads to another. So had I known about the Hashimotos, the other one I have I might have been more prepared for when I was diagnosed. .

His doc removed it because the cells they biopsy'd came back abnormal. Not cancerous, just abnormal so to be safe the doc removed it. I'm drawing a blank on her name, but I'll FM you when it comes to me. Really really nice doc that looks like Nicole Kidman.Chat Icon
