Inappropriate work conversations..UPDATE

I transferred to a new position at work. My desk is located at the end of the office near where we share the office with another department.

The women that sits a few cubicles over is constantly on the phone, talking about her stbxh using profanity and discussing inappropriate conversations at her desk, rather loudly!!!!!!!!!!!!

It is so distracting!

Whatever happened to keeping things private?!?!?!

I would be so embarrassed if everyone in the office new half the stuff she openly discusses.

I don't even know who this person is, but I sure do know a lot of her personal information.

Would you approach your administrator about it or the actual person?

UPDATE: After some investigation,it turns out this person is a supervisor in the other department!

Now what do I do?

Re: Inappropriate work conversations…..

I would approach the person herself first, and if that doesn't do anything, then an administrator. You don't want to embarrass her anymore than you will by telling her you know all of the details of her life ... it's possible she doesn't even realize how loud she is being. Give her a chance to pipe down and if she doesn't, then go above her.

Re: Inappropriate work conversations…..

Just ask her to please keep her conversations low.

See what happens.

Re: Inappropriate work conversations…..

Normally I have a vey big mouth and wouldn't hesitate to say something. Since this is work, I'd drop her a private note and just slip it on her desk. I would try to stay far away from controversy.

it turns out this person is an administrator in the other department.

I think I am going to have my administrator talk to her.

I would talk to your administrator and tell him/her the conversation, but insist on keeping it anonymous.

Re: Inappropriate work conversations..UPDATE

I would talk to HR. I had a similar situation with a supervisor from another department who talked LOUDLY about his s e x life in the cubicle next to me. We had high walls but they were paper thin, so I heard everything. I said something and they moved him into an office. It sucked that he got rewarded for being a nasty pig but I didn't have to hear it anymore.
