I want to take my first one tomorrow morning, do I have to have bike shorts? and are there any tips for a first timer

No, you certainly don't need bike shorts. In my spin class, there is a lot of sitting down and standing up while cycling. Your butt may hurt by end of class. And also make sure your seat and handles are at the right height for you or else you will be straining yourself.

But the hour is worth it. Before you know it, its over. Have fun!
