My poor kitty......
2 years ago, my cat Blackie was infected with FIV, a feline aids. I was so upset. My vet tested him last year, because he wasnt showing any signs of the disease, so he tested him again,a nd it came back negative. He said he could have been exposed, but fought it off. He said this is rare.
He just had his check-up yesterday, and he wanted to test him, and it came back positive
Im so upset right now. Im sorry, I just had to vent.

The vet said if he acts different in any way to call immediately. He has not shown any signs of being sick, which is why he tested him last year.
Yes, it can be fatal, but he can live a long life too.
I dont know why it hurst so bad

Hi Diane!
Our Noel was diagnosed with FIV+ at 14...he lived another five years in good health. Finally old age (along with the progression of FIV) took him at 19+ years. They can live for a long time with it but if you have other kitties, it might not be a bad idea to have them tested too. Sometimes they could infect each other through biting, scratching, etc.
Noel was the neighborhood bully/tomcat and always came home with open wounds, etc. So him getting it didn't surprise me.
