If your TSH is low .26 will that affect your ovulation?

trying to find out info for my friend. she had a m/c and went for blood work and turns out her TSH is low a bit and her T4 and T3 free and uptake are normal and she was wondering if that could be why she is having trouble? TIA.

usually a high TSH (indicating hypothroidism) might be a risk factor for fertility issues or m/c. I don't think a low TSH esp when the T3 and T4 is normal is a problem for fertilty... but i'm not 100% sure

That is REALLY low....she needs to be on medication.

I do think hyperthyropid can affect TTC yes....

Ok... SO I referred baack to my old endocrinology notes and found this...

Basically a dx of of hypertyroidism is USUALLY made with a low TSH (lab values differ from lab to lab)... and elevated (t3, T4, or T3RU, free t4)...

In some, rare cases... a person may be hyperthyroid and still have normal levels of the other thyroid hormones.

It sounds like this was an incidental finding. Most importanly in making the diagnosis... is does your friends have any other the symptoms of hyperthyroid?

There are other (non endocrine causes) that can give you a low TSH... stress, other medications, illness, radiation, Xrays, cat scan ...also I believe that if you measure the TSH at different times throughout the day you may get different values...

Your friend should have the bloodwork repeated in 6 weeks.

thank you so much!!! I am going to tell her. I dont know if she is having any other symptoms I dont think so cause I think she would have mentioned them. she did however say that due to what she eats ( she massive diets) she should be thin and she is thin but not super thin like model thin but she is thin. and she felt that what she eats all healthy in very small portions she should be thinner but she isnt.

oh and she called me last night and said she spoke to her doctor her gyno he is the one that is doing the bloodwork and she said should I have my thyroid antibodies checked? and he said who told you that and she said my friend mentioned it and he said why dont you listen to the doctors- I was like ewwwwwwww its not brain surgery its a simple blood test, I told her go to your regular doctor and have it done to have peace of mind since this A-hole isnt going to check for you and blew it off like its not important! Gee if she cant get PG and you want to put her on Clomid and her TSH came back low you might want to check the anitbodies too, no? Im not a doctor but I swear I am starting to dislike thier logic sometimes. thanks for listening and giving me some advice.

When ttc, tsh should be between a 1-2 and yes, thyroid antibodies are a very important test because if they are elevated that is a red flag for immune issues. Her levels are considered hyperthyroid...

She should make an appt to see an endocrinologist who specializes in thyroid issues. She may need to be put on PTU (propylthiouracil). If her levels are out of range she is at risk for miscarriage...
