do you know of any rescue groups? *UPDATED*
I was actually thinking of starting my own dog rescue group and was wondering if you knew of any companies that i could talk to and get some advice? Thanks so much
P.s. I know I'm crazy but this is a long dream of mine and now that I'm a SAHM who works for a dog training company, I feel like I have the best resources and this could actually happen.
----------------------------------------------------------------- So I decided to go the foster mom route for now and am picking up my first dog tonight! His name is Chicco and he's a 3-4 year old pug/chihuahua mix (i guess they call them "chugs") I'm so excited to start this already!! I'll let you guys know all about him and hopefully someone will be interested in him pretty quickly! Thanks again for the suggestions

I've thought about that too and decided I would volunteer for a shelter or rescue first, to see what it took to do the job. What I've read is that it's very taxing time and money wise and that it can be heartbreaking because you want to pull all the dogs from the kill shelters but have to make tough decisions about which ones to save.

This is why I don't think I could do it. I couldn't walk by the dogs in the kill shelters and not take ALL of them with me. Consider this when you decide to start a rescue, it's a great and admirable thing to do but be prepared for the really emotionally taxing aspects of your endeavor.
I have volunteered with raising money for the Herding Dog Rescue Group, I think they're based in Freeport, you can google and contact them? At least I can recommend them cause I know they're legit. I know they do an annual luncheon where they raise money at a restaurant, and we did garage sales selling donated items, there's all kinds of things you can do to get it off the ground.

All About Spay and Neuter in Massapequa. It's a small operation out of someone's home. She rescues feral cats, socializes the kittens, and spays/neuters the parents and releases them. That's where we got my cat!!

So many people do this that they have a term for it. It's called a "Foster Failure". I would totally be that person.

I'll be fostering for Waggy tail rescues. this is actually the little guy now! Chicco
I could totally see myself adopting out a foster dog but in this case, my husband would NEVER go for a pug/chi mix. haha he wants another pit. I'll keep everyone updated about how the fostering thing is going. I'm so excited to pick him up!!
