Are there any districts that are hiring?
I have mass mailed 100+ resumes but just cannot do it again. Any districts that are hiring?
This is so tough. Why don't the universities STOP enrolling new students into education programs????

while I do agree that universities should be limiting people in programs (my BA program only accepted 16 each year and I graduated with at least 4000 people - many of my friends did not get into the teaching program), it's a fine line. You could have someone that will be one of the greatest teacher's ever denied and go into another field.
while technology has changed applying for jobs, you might still want to think about mass mailing again. I got my first job in the mid 90's, b/c I updated my resume after taking a permanant sub job and mass mailed again. My chairperson noticed that I updated and pulled my name out.

Before you mail out mass resume's check the districts websites to see if they will accept paper resumes. Many wont - they mail them back to you. Many many districts go through OLAS.
I would check OLAS and the New York Times job section religiously

I feel like OLAS is a joke. I know it's not but I have never ONCE recieved a call from any jobs I've applied to on there. I'll check the Times.
I have mass mailed my resumes at least 5 times in the last 3 years. Yes, I've gotten called back but still nothing probationary so I thought maybe someone knew of a district or 2 hiring.

I got this email from my union about a week ago:
East Moriches has the following positions available due to the recent retirement incentive:
5 elementary
1 social studies
1 PE

OLAS is not a joke.. districts use it to easily and quickly filter through applicants... what are you looking for?

I applied to over a dozen jobs through there. For subbing, elementary ed positions, leave replacements, etc. The only call backs I've ever gotten were from mailing though. I know it's not a joke I just feel like it hasn't gotten me anywhere

I also feel like I have never gotten a call back through OLAS. Most of my interviews come from mailing/emailing.
