would you see a Doctor that is not board certified?
I am looking for a new gyno who would eventually deliver my children. the one I have an appointment with is NOT board certified and it got me thinking. maybe I should be seeing a board certified Dr considering they will be delivering a baby?
what are your thoughts on a doctor who is not? (I have never seen this dr before so I don't have any trust in them yet, even though I am going based on personal references)

Probably not is the short answer. Do you know why he/she isn't board certified? Is he/she brand new out of residency or fellowship? Is he/she board eligible? Or is it that he/she failed the boards a number of times? If it's the last one, then no, I would not see that physician, particularly an OB/Gyn.

I can give you a rec, though! I just started with Dr Johnson @ University Associates OB/GYN (stony brook) and I was very very very happy with her!

This is an argument I had with my DH about a pediatrician for my son. I did not want him seeing someone who wasn't certified and DH liked a ped. who wasn't and wanted to use him. I said no way.
To me, if they aren't willing to go the extra mile to get the certification, they aren't for me.

there is no difference between a well versed doctor and a board certified, I am board certified and it simply meant that I had to complete an application, pay a fee, have 2 peers fill out a recommendation for me and have upper manangement give me their blessings. Then..poof...you are board certified
