Re: Ugghhh-are jobs actually hiring??

I think there are jobs out there but there is so much competition for the spots. I think you almost have to have an "in" to get the job. I have sent out so many resumes and very few calls. And the calls I do get are for sales positions......that is the last job I am interested....Id be horrible at it.

This is a huge problem. My company had an opening and received over 200 resumes in response.

You can't necessarily go by that - I have return receipt on my work email and don't always get a receipt even though I know the email was read.

But I do imagine at some point, HR stops reading resumes when they reach a certain point.

Good luck to your dh!

I know, it really is. My dh NEVER had a problem getting a job, EV.ER.
While I joke around with the Taco Bell job thing, I wonder if he WOULD even get hired there!!! Chat Icon

same here! in the past i'd find a job in no time. now i'm having a really hard time. i've applied to 35 jobs over the past four months (those are the only ones that were posted that i was remotely qualified for) and got only 7 interviews and no offers. meanwhile, my SIL started applying and in one month she had five interviews and two offers! different fields and what not, but it was a little depressing for me. you're DH is not alone, if this makes you feel any better (which i'm sure it doesn't as your situation is still the same)

Re: Ugghhh-are jobs actually hiring??

I feel you. im employed right now but looking for something full time closer to home or even part time so i can be home more with DS and nothing..since May.

the emails I do get replies from are total scams which pisses me off.

Im applying for things that I am more than capable of. I have no way of knowing if these emails and applications i am sending are getting read or received.

The downside to email is that no one wants resumes faxed anymore or gives #'s to follow up.

I don't know about McDonalds or Taco Bell as an option, but I would seriously think about Starbucks. From what I hear, they offer benefits, etc., if you are full time.
