Spinoff school shopping & backpacks - here's a suggestion
Don't take the kids with you!
If you want a backpack, a particular notebook, specific pencils....don't take your kids shopping for school supplies.
My kids' heads would explode if they had to choose between backpacks - and it would never be the one I would want for them.
It would have a character on it, which means it costs more to pay for the licensing & it's likely a lot flimsier than the one I'd pick.
It's easier to get the school info now so ask when/if your school posts the school supply list in August. Ours used to send them to us with the new teacher assignment but posts them on the website earlier.
Trust me when I say you do not want to go to Staples the first week of school.

Great suggestions! Jack will just be starting Kindergarten, but my plan is to get him a nice Lands End backpack and fill it with all the supplies he needs without him even being aware that their is a supply list. He's going to love it! One of his favorite christmas gifts was getting his own stapler...LOL...the boy loves office supplies.

Re: Spinoff school shopping & backpacks - here's a suggestion
Ds school had us pre-order the school supplies but gave us a list of a few items not included in the school ordered box of supplies.
One of the things on the "extras" list was that he needed one tube sock. For the life of me I can think of why they'd need ONE tube sock. And they didn't say what size - kids or adult?
Any ideas?

The only thing I can think of is they might use white boards with dry erase markers and the sock would serve as the eraser.

I agree. so I'd say an adult (since they'll be using it throughout the year)

The Lands End backpacks are amazing. We used them this year for both our boys and they held up all year and we can still use them. Great product!
