Anyone get an ereader and find they don't like it?

I keep going back and forth about getting one, I feel like I only hear raves, I was wondering if anyone didn't like theirs and why.

Re: Anyone get an ereader and find they don't like it?

I just got one and yes, it does read like a book. Yesterday, I was trying to turn the page. Chat Icon

I don't have any negative reviews per se.

I did read a few on kindle and nook.

1- I think some people expect a device worth $200 to be a mini computer

2- I thought I could replaced all my space eating books by ebooks but a lot of them are not available on that format.

3- I am able to get books from the library and this is what I have been reading. So mostly novels that I might want to read but not purchase.

I have the Nook 3G and wifi. I don't have wifi at home. But I have not got any issues yet. The only thing is that I might have to go in my kitchen to connect to the wifi/3G. It does not affect any of the reading I have though since I had to download the books from the local library to my nook through my computer (USB). Then once it's uploaded I can read it anywhere.

I decided on the Nook because library ebooks cannot be downloaded to kindle. And that was a major point for me. I don't have to purchase books. You have the option to just download books from your local ibrary.

ETA: Yes, I love my ereader!!!!!!

I have a kindle. I'm a SAHM, and personally, I enjoy getting out and borrowing books from the library. If I was still commuting, I think I would use it more.
Also, I'm getting annoyed that some kindle books are more expensive than the paperback edition!

I got the nook and was very hesitant that it wouldn't read like a book, cause I get headaches very easily. But it does! I've read 4 books already and haven't bought a single one because I've been borrowing them from the library, it's great!

How do you borrow from your library? Do you have to go to the library site?

You need a valid library card.

Then you go to your local library online. They have directions on how to install the software and how to download.

You cannot do it with the kindle though.

All correct info - just wanted to add that you can purchase a membership to the Philadelphia Public Library for $15 for a year.

I haven't gotten my card from them yet... still waiting. Chat Icon

Between Nassau and Suffolk sites I have availability to 25% of what I want to read - hoping Philly gives me another 25%+

I love my Nook - much more than I thought I would. I knew I would use it, but just not this much. I use it at least 2x a day, sometimes three. Maybe it's because it's the summer and there is nothing on good on TV.

I've had it 2.5 weeks and I'm on book #9. Hubby joked that I should calculate the ROI for it and so far I've saved ~75 dollars between B&N freebies and Overdrive books.

You can do that easily with the Nook. With the Kindle not so easy (or legal.)

NY libraries uses a third party service (called Overdrive) which provides ebooks, audio books, etc) over the internet.

I can't get myself to hold back from answering. Chat Icon

I think what my reason for talking about it so much is that IMO it's the better device. Everyone just defaults to the kindle since it's better known and been around longer. I don't want someone who might just go for the 'well known name' to miss out on a much better device. Plus now it feels like a sporting event - Kindle vs Nook. I want Nook to win!!

To keep this on topic, I'm on my 8th free book from the library. Chat Icon Chat Icon

I think the Nook is the best device mainly due to it's versability and library ability. I cannot imagine buying all the books all the time. I go through too many books.

The Philly card came in the mail yesterday. They currently have 6 books I was looking for that I can't get from Nassau or Suffolk. So I consider it a success for the 15.00 investment, even if I don't read any more than those 6 books in the year.

Re: Anyone get an ereader and find they don't like it?

I have the Nook and LOVE IT!!!! Never knew I could download e-books for free from the library...I need to learn how to do that asap!

I recently bought the Pandigital E-reader from Bed Bath and Beyond because it looked interesting but it sucked. I returned it a week later.

I love the free books and using the public libraries! I just put myself on the list and get the email. It's great!
I haven't had any time to explore other libraries yet!

Re: Anyone get an ereader and find they don't like it?

I only read free books from the library on my sony e-reader, which i love!

if you are in NYC or plan to be, do yourself a favor and get a NYPL library card (any NYS resident can get one) they have tens of thousands of e-books available for download.

Now onto how much I love my e-reader, it is terrific. Great for the gym, for doctors office, traveling. The only thing is that sometimes when I enlarge the font, the placement of the wording gets strange.
