my god, will this woman ever stop?? but i have to agree with your dh, about not talking about $$ issues in front of his mother. you know that she will just stress him out about it and then he'll take it out (not literally) on you. more like transfer it to you. but your mil is nuts and should've been taken up to the psych ward for evaluation while you were at the hospital

Your MIL is definately crazy! While I agree that perhaps you shouldn't have discussed it in front of her, it's absolutely ridiculous that she would question your DH about it when she knows you're saving money for his birthday party!

What a wacko she is! DH and I had the discussion long ago never to have financial discussion in front of others. I especially don't want to have one in front of my IL's!!!!

She sounds like a loon!!! We hardly discuss financial details in front of either side of the family. Sometimes we will talk about basics, especially right now cuz we are trying to buy a house, but never anything specific. Besides, how is it her business in any way, shape or form.

This woman is ridiculous!
First of all, she offered to pay for a ticket, so she should, w/o complaining....I hate when people do that!
Second, she knows you are planning your husband's 30th-and you don't have extra money....That is sooo rude!
Plus you spent all day w/her at the ER!!!
Argh...good luck girl!

Yes, very inappropriate. Whether or not she's paying for any of your tickets to Italy, you & your DHs personal finances are none of her business! And obviously she knows it because she didn't ask the question in front of you. And how asinine of her to ask why you couldn't pay for the ticket knowing that you are paying for your DH's surprise party!

This woman is making me sick and tired! I'm not even going to get into how we were with my family on XMAS and my mom gave me her ering from my father. We were talking about having it reset into a pendant. Then, my MIL announced, "you should give your jewelry to your children early." So I said, "why would I do that? you could give stuff to our kids if you want, but I'm not giving away my stuff until they are adults." So she says, "Oh, well ALL of my jewelry will go to my granddaughters" So I said, "what if we only have boys" (Dh is an only child and we don't have kids yet) And, she just stared at me
this completly sounds like my fmil - she pratically has me walking down the aisle in her mothers dress. she passed away 2 years ago. i don't mean this literally, about the dress, but everytime talk of the wedding comes up, she is either talking about how much they are going to "help" us w/money or telling me i need to wear her mothers pearls. theres just pressure so i complety understand where you are coming from
