Proof I don't want to eat children while they sleep
DH and I went out to eat on Saturday night and there was a man walking around with a little girl carrying a book. She stopped at my table and looked at me and I smiled at her so she handed me her book. I made a big show of receiving it and said "Thaaaank yooooou!" and she giggled. So I opened the book and started to read her the first page and she looked at me in wonder for a second and then reached her little hand out. I handed it back to her and she said "Da doo" and walked away laughing. 
Then the waitress, who saw the whole thing, came over and said "How many children do you have?" Not, "Do you have children?" 
I said two. A girl, 3 years old and a boy, 2 years old. She asked their names. I said Ginger and Brinkley. DH laughed his @ss off.
I think I'm just going to pretend that the dogs are my kids from now on. It has the added benefit of p*ssing people off who have said, "You shouldn't treat your dogs like children!" 
Don't worry, we still gave her a big tip.

I've done something similar with my horses and cats. I get the absolute best looks when I tell people I have 5 children ranging in age from 16 years old to 18 months.  (They believe me more when I use "months" instead of years for the young ones. )
Note - I still get carded when I buy Lotto tickets... I don't quite look old enough to have a 16 year old!

she sounds very cute!! even cuter that you didn't have to take her home and change her diapers!!!
When people ask if I have kids I have now started to answer "Yeah, I have 2 really big ones, 66 and 60 years old".
