Why do people assume you are the parent?
So my condo complex has a pool and we have a lifeguard on duty. She is a young pretty girl about 18 yrs old....so the other day I bring my little cousin (6yrs old) to the pool and the lifeguard asked
"Is she your sister?"
Instead of the other 3 people who have seen me with her in the past 6 years and have told her
"Tell your mommy..."
and I love that she tells them
"She's not my mommy she is my favorite cousin!"

If I saw an adult with a child I would most likely think it was the parent, even thought I know it could be an aunt, cousin, sister, babysitter, etc.
At least they don't think you are her grandmother!

People always assume I am my SD's Mom. They say we look alike (we kinda dont see it but whatever). She said to me other day "just go with it, it's easier".
People love to ASSume!

Ditto! I compulsively let people know that I am the aunt when I am out with my niece or nephew.
and  on the grandma comment.

I compulsively let people know that I am the aunt when I am out with my niece or nephew.
OMG I do this with my cousin too!!!!

Eh, I guess bc you (or I, person in question) is of child bearing age and the only adult w/the child.
When I was teenager I was a nanny and I was in the park with my little guy a lot. Moms there were whispering that I was his mom and in a tisk tisk look at that teen mom kinda way. I thought it was quiet funny!

I get the opposite...lol..i get asked if my daughter is my sister or my niece all the time..i guess its because i look 17 instead of 27
