HELP!

My friend's son was diagnosed with PPD at age 3. He is not 5. He was recently kicked out of his Boces School for acting out (throwing books and just being uncontrollable). He was called a "menace" by his psychiatrist and she wanted to hospitalize this 5 year old (south oaks) my friend refused and refused as she felt her 5 year old did not need to hospitalized. He was off his meds that day he acted out at school etc.
Botton line, she needs a new psychiatrist ASAP the one problem she has is that she has affinity Medicaid health plan. Can someone recommend a child psychiatrist that accepts her medical health plan? She is willing to travel so location doesn’t matter. Thank you all for your help in advance!!

Re: HELP!

Sorry. I don't know of anyone specifically. I've only worked with psychiatrists affiliated with specific agencies that my patients were attending, but i'm not familiar with anyone who sees children privately. Has she looked up names under her insurance's participating provider list? Or how about psychiatrists affiliated with nearbye hospitals. One of the kids I see now has a psychiatrist at LIJ. I'll ask the psychiatriist at my job if he knows of anyone specifically and I'll get back to you with any recommendations he gives. Also, since the child has PDD, he should have access to a psychiatrist at agencies for people with developemental disabilties, like YAI. She can call YAI's main site in Manhattan and find out if that's something she might be interested in (212) 273-6100. Good luck!

Re: HELP!

Thank you so much! I take it that she has looked at her health care plan? But I will pass this information onto her...thanks again!
I just know that he was receiving all of his services through his Boces program and that has a private psychiatrist.
