Re: What is a good dog for young kids?
Depends on so many things -- and not all dogs are guaranteed to meet breed "standards."
How big of a dog do you want?
How energetic of a dog do you want? Do you have time for a dog that needs a lot of exercise every day?
What's your lifestyle like? Will the dog be left along for long hours every day while everyone is out of the house, or will someone be home most of the time to keep him company?
Any other pets in the home?

I have a pit lab mix that had been great with kids. We make sure we have it around kids because we will have our own soon.

Re: What is a good dog for young kids?
What Kara said.
I would recommend a Lab with one caveat - that they be trained and exercised well. An energetic Lab running around the house can be a danger to children, whether they mean it or not.
Then again, that probably goes for any dog, not just a Lab. But a Lab can knock a child down fairly easily.
