Dogs & Raccoons

So last night I heard Daisy start going nuts in the yard, barking and howling, which she doesn't usually do. So I knew something was up...I looked out the window from upstairs, and could see her standing in the corner of the yard staring up at the fence...And then I saw the raccoon sitting up there. DH went outside and said he couldn't see it, but he knew something was there cause she kept growling too.

So my question is, how often do raccoons go after dogs? And what should we do now? I don't want to have to worry about letting her out at night...

Thanks!

they USUALLY are scared of dogs, but some are not.
their claws are like razors and could do a lot of damage
the BIGGER thing IMO, to be worried about is I think its Lepto. if the animal urinates in your yard your dog can get lepto if its not vaccinated against it. they usually die from it if they get it

I would figure out if its living in your yard. if it is call an exterminator and have them removed and re-released.

If its not living in your yard, make sure your not leaving any trash or food out for them. If you have pond they could be attracted to that too. If you don't have any of this they have no reason to be in the yard except to look for food, and their time should be short.

Thanks so much!!! It definitely isn't living in our yard, cause there is nowhere for it to hide (no big trees or anything - the ones it was by are only about 8 feet tall, and nothing can live in there.) I think it just uses our fence as a walkway to get somewhere else...I hope it isn't actually running around the yard!

I should find out if she is vaccinated against that though. Thanks again!

That's really creepy!!!

We don't have a shed...We have a pool, that's about it...I'm definitely going to keep my eyes out though and see if this becomes more of a regular occurrence...
