I'm officially out and done with IUI's

AF has been on her way for the past few days... slight spotting. Last night she came back with avengence and I'm doubled over with cramps.

DH and I had a long talk the other day. It was prompted by some research my aunt discovered on Femara. She is a retired nurse practioner, is home bound with adult onset polio and spends most of her time researching pharmacuticals. She said even the Physicians Desk Reference says Femara is bad... birth defects and well, I couldn't listen to the rest of the message I was so upset. She was really adamant and upset about what she read.

We've also decided, no more IUI's.
The more I am reading the Chinese medical explanation to my symptoms the more and more I have several "systems" (liver, spleen, kidneys) out of wack due to hormonal imbalance. I have a more severe case of PCOS that is not going to be helped with the Band-Aid of a fertility med that doesn't address my real problem. All of the fertility meds are doing nothing to restore my natural balance, they are just reving my ovaries. I will not ingest any more of these meds (for 10 months now) for a procedure that gives me, at best, a 10% chance. The possible long term effects of these drugs are scarey... higher risk of ovarian cancer.

I also feel that IVF would be a waste right now because my body is so out of wack... my chart still looks like an EKG, another sign of severe hormonal imbalance... and probably wouldn't take. So, we are taking a break for a few months. In that time I am throwing myself at holistic medicine... change in diet (organic), herbs, yoga, massage and accupuncture. This is what I'll spend the entire summer doing. I'm hoping it will restore my balance. We will keep trying on our own. If we are not PG then we are insisting that we go straight to IVF as I'll be 36 in October. Wanted to do it over the summer but it looks like I'll be working w/o a contract for next year (that will be a joy ) and I'll still need time off for IVF. I'm tenured and w/ the ridiculous course load I carry, they can't fire me because they couldn't find someone to replace me, even amongst my fellow dept. members.

So that's the plan.

I am sorry she came again. It sounds like you are at peace with your decision. Hope you are doing well and more imprtantly I hope this is it for you!!!!

I'm really sorry Theresa. But you sound so certain about what you're going to do over the summer, I can't help but feel that you're doing the right thing for yourself, and I hope it works for you! Good luck!

I'm so disappointed that with 6 women in the 2WW, virtually at the exact same time, we do not have one BFP. Someone has to graduate soon

Oh, no plans on leaving.

I'll update everyone as to what I'm eating, what treatments I'm going for, exercise, weightloss etc.

No way can I shut my mouth for long

I just got AF too but since I knew I wasn't pg. I am actually happy -- I was starting to think I was entering menopause already...

Theresa...you sound really happy with your decision and that's the most important thing. Maybe the drugs will have jumpstarted your system and you will have a fairly regular cycle or the holistic treatments will help.
Whatever happens, I really hope you can relax and look forward to a BFP in your future.

Oh Theresa- I am so in favor of your new plan- I really think that sometimes Western medicine falls short so I hope your new plan is the ticket.
