Diarrhea in dogs
Lexi got into the garbage last Wedesday and has had diarrhea ever since.
At first we gave her rice and boiled chicken, that didn't help. Then we had her fast for 24 hours, and gave her rice with chicken again. She didn't poop for almost 48 hours, and just went today for the first time. It's not as runny as it was, but still soft.
DH is on his way to pick up plain canned pumpkin, which we'll add to her rice and chicken. We DO plan on calling the vet in the morning but because she is in such good spirits, drinking water fine, peeing fine and shows no signs of being ill, I'm not really too concerned. Is there anything else we can do for the upset tummy?

Re: Diarrhea in dogs
When Rexy went through all of his stomach issues the emergency vet told us to give him a half of an immodium and a quarter of an antacid. I would just call the vet though before you do this to see if your dogs weight corresponds to that dosage.

I always gave Katie just rice and water when she had problems.

Re: Diarrhea in dogs
I work at a Vets office and see this a lot. I would bring her in to the vet at least to get Sub Q fluids...she could get dehydrated.

Re: Diarrhea in dogs
Thanks everyone - she is doing much better today, we brought her to the vet yesterday, they put her on antibiotics and probiotics, and she is already having normal poops again. Oh the things that make us happy!
