I have a question about school districts.
Example: Your child goes to Sachem for 5 yrs. You move to Middle Country. Can you pay to keep your child in the Sachem schools?

Re: I have a question about school districts.
I know you can apply for a variance with the school districts but I don't think you can pay.
I know my son's friend's mom is applying for one because they're moving. She is getting the school counselor involved to back her up.

Re: I have a question about school districts.
I know we moved in April when I was younger and they were able to keep me in my old school district till the end of the year. Not sure what my parents did but my stepmother did work in my old school as an English teacher. I had to go to the new school in the Fall though.

Re: I have a question about school districts.
It's very unusual for a district to allow you to attend if you aren't a resident, unless you are classified as homeless (i.e. you live with family)
Sachem will not even allow you to attend another school in their own district which is not your home school, so I highly doubt they would allow a Middle Country resident to attend.

Re: I have a question about school districts.
I know the district I work in is on the border of Nassau and Queens. When the district believes someone does not live in the district, they hire investigators to prove it.

Re: I have a question about school districts.
That is what I thought.
My ex-SIL is saying she is paying 1 school district to allow her kids to go there, when they don't live in that district. She thinks my brother reported her and is now suing him for the money she had to lay out.
He's trying to figure out if this is even legal.

That wouldn't even make sense because if the district allowed her to pay for her kids to go, there would be nothing to report.

Exactly.
So "if" it's allowed, she was doing it without their knowledge than got caught by someone reporting it. And they made her pay up. She thinks he did it. He didn't. She's suing him for $2875.00, claiming that's what it cost for 4 months for 2 kids. Seems she wants someone to pay for something she may have done illegally.
We just didn't think this was even allowed.
If you see this story on Judge Judy, remember you heard it here first

Re: I have a question about school districts.
This is only allowed if a parents works for the school district and wants to "buy" their children in. (A lot of people I work with do this because their home district has half day K and the district we work in has full day K.)
There is a lot of paperwork involved and you need to pay the school taxes in the district for each child you enroll. It's totally legal and there would be nothing to report. Any other sitauation sounds extremely shady to me.
