Cat owners--what do you make of this?
I've posted about this before, but...well...tell me what you think.
Our cat has a vomiting problem. We're talking like at LEAST 3 times a week, he throws up somewhere in our house. Usually on our 2 month-old living room carpet. We actually started closing our bedroom door because it was becoming like a sick joke...every single time he'd come into our room, he'd throw up on our cream-colored carpet.
We've already taken him to the vet, where they ran blood tests, ultrasounds and various other tests on him. Everything came back normal.
I understand that cats are going to have hairballs...but 80% of the time, there's no hair in the vomit.
But here's the real kicker that makes me ...
We just came to NY for 5 days. We had a family member come over once a day to refill Nugget's food and water.
We came home...no vomit. I thought that my cousin must have cleaned it up. I called her before to apologize for the cat vomit and to thank her for cleaning it up. Her answer? "What cat vomit?". For 5 whole days, no vomit at all. That never happens when we are here.
We've been back since yesterday morning and he's already thrown up twice.
WHAT could be the reason he's doing this? Do you think he has the capacity to be spiteful about something and to control when or where he vomits?

Wow, not sure if they can vomit out of spite, but that would be nuts. I wonder what he would even be spiteful towards you about.
Anyway, we have a long-haired cat and she vomits ALL THE TIME - probably 5x a week. Medically, she is fine. So, you are not alone as far as the frequent vomiting...

Re: Cat owners--what do you make of this?
That sounds kind of like my cat. I've had her for about 15 years, and she's always had problems with vomiting several times a week. Sometimes it is caused by a hairball, but mostly when she vomits there is no hair ball. And otherwise, she's been healthy. I think she might eat too much or too quickly sometimes which makes her vomit. Definitely annoying to clean up, but at least your cat's tests came back with no medical problems, which is good!

Re: Cat owners--what do you make of this?
stubby started to vomit for no reason last week we got scared but we figured she got a backup.
I am using this stuff that i got for hairballs its a gel that is malt flavor. Its basically castor oil so it makes sure they poo and fur comes up when it needs too. Your cat may have some of blockage so i noticed with stubby giving it to her no vomit and MASSIVE POO but she looks/feels better.

just b/c you dont see hair in the vomit doesnt mean its not b/c of a hair ball.... she could be having a hard time coughing up the hair ball & just throwing up as a result
i would start giving her a hairball remedy once a week... we do this with my kitty and its worked wonders!
they sell it in petco & all pet stores... they usually come in a tube like toothpaste

We were having this problem and switched to hairball formula food and hairball treats once a day.

I find that our new cat never vomits. Poor little Sushi was doing it almost everyday when the new cat arrived. i also see it happen in her when she wolfs down her food or gets excited or upset. Could it be that your cat missed you while you were away and ate slower? Now that Sushi has adjusted better to Miso, she has not vomited as much.

Do you usually always have food out? I found that my cat would not vomit when he had small meals but would when he would eat all day.

Re: Cat owners--what do you make of this?
My guess would be the culprit is your cat food. What are you feeding? Cats are obligate carnivores - designed to eat meat and only meat, not grains. While many cats do okay on dry foods with other ingredients, grains are not good for them. They cannot digest them properly and cat foods with grains included often lead to similar digestive upset.
As for not vomiting while you were away.... Could be that your cat wasn't eating as much while you were gone. Could also be that the cat vomited and ate its vomit. Gross, but possible...

Do you brush your cat or use any medicine? I have this stuff I put on their paws and they lick it. Someone else mentioned it in this thread.
Brushing my cat a few times a week really helped.

Re: Cat owners--what do you make of this?
Sometimes my cat will throw up after eating if he eats very late. He will eat so fast and get sick and throw it up later. Did your cousin feed the cat earlier than you normally would?

Re: Cat owners--what do you make of this?
My 2 long hared cats both do this. we have a sick joke that they are bulimic cats. but im sure its just hairballs causing it. they have both been to the vet numerous times and are fine.
